Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Newark, New Jersey
On May 1, 2013, the Embraer Emb-145Lr aircraft (registration N17560), was involved in an accident at Newark, New Jersey (United States) due to a ground collision with another aircraft while taxiing. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
Flight 4226 was stopped on taxiway R, with the parking brake set and its back to flight 908, when the collision occurred. It had stopped between taxiways M and Y, with instructions to hold short of Y to give way to a Boeing 737, and its crew probably misjudged the space it was leaving behind. In its turn, flight 908 was worried about having room to pass: the captain acknowledged that he concentrated on clearing the wing of another aircraft (an ExpressJet) and neglected the tail of the parked aircraft. Nobody asked flight 4226 to move forward to give more room, which taxiway R would have allowed. In the end flight 908 suffered minor damage to its left winglet and flight 4226 significant damage to the empennage, through the captain's misjudgement of distance. An anti-collision system could have prevented it. Source: the NTSB (United States).
