Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Incident at San Antonio, Texas
On December 4, 2016, the Embraer Erj170 200Lr aircraft (registration N161SY), operated by Delta Connection, was involved in an incident at San Antonio, Texas (United States), leaving 1 injured. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 4 December 2016, laboratory analysis revealed that the area near the fracture point contained levels of retained austenite above the permissible limit. That excess retained austenite promoted intergranular cracking which, as it progressed, ended up separating and breaking the nose gear downlock spring. After the fracture, the spring became trapped in the nose gear fork and prevented it from reaching the down-and-locked position. With the nose gear not fully down and locked, when the weight of the aircraft transferred during landing to the nose and main gear, the nose leg folded back into its bay.
