Boeing 717-200 (717-2BD) in Long Beach. Operates for Delta Air Lines. Previously flew for airTran and airTran Airways.

Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 11 September 2001, after the attacks with hijacked aircraft on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon, the FAA ordered — for the first time in history — the complete closure of United States airspace (the SCATANA plan): all civil aviation was told to land immediately, and by midday the American sky was clear. Around 240 international flights bound for the United States were diverted to Canada — Operation Yellow Ribbon, with more than 30,000 passengers. Airspace reopened gradually from 13 September, by then under new security measures. Source: the FAA (United States).

Accident at Detroit, Michigan
On August 29, 2022, the Boeing 717-200 aircraft (registration N946AT), operated by Delta Air Lines, was involved in an accident at Detroit, Michigan (United States), leaving 1 injured. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 29 August 2022, a flight attendant was injured when the aircraft met turbulence during the descent into the Detroit area. At the pre-flight briefing, the captain had warned of possible light to moderate bumps, especially below 12,000 feet. In the initial descent, at around 20,000 feet, the aircraft passed through light turbulence with some moderate stretches for close to a minute; the rest was mostly smooth. The flight attendant, who was in the forward galley, struck her left side against the counter — a direct blow to the ribs — and then fell backwards against the cockpit door. She did not report it immediately: at the gate and after shutdown, she went to the cockpit to tell them. On disembarking she was in increasing pain; the crew walked her to the adjacent gate, where paramedics attended to her and took her to hospital, which diagnosed a fractured rib.
