Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Chicago, Illinois
On October 1, 2021, the Embraer S A Erj 170-200 Lr aircraft (registration N142SY), operated by Republic Airways, was involved in an accident at Chicago, Illinois (United States) due to a ground collision with another aircraft while taxiing. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 1 October 2021, at the end of the third and last flight of the day, SkyWest flight 5845 had landed at Chicago O'Hare airport (ORD) and was taxiing to gate B21, although it had to wait because the gate was occupied. When it finally moved in to park, the left winglet struck the right elevator of Republic Airways flight 3594, which had just pushed back from the adjacent gate B22. Gate B21 had an automatic parking system (APIS) showing green, and the SkyWest crew believed this indicated the gate safety area was clear of obstacles; the company did not use ground marshals to verify clearance. The Republic aircraft already had the tug disconnected, the parking brake set and both engines running, awaiting taxi instructions, when it was struck. Source: the NTSB (United States).
