Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 11 September 2001, after the attacks with hijacked aircraft on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon, the FAA ordered — for the first time in history — the complete closure of United States airspace (the SCATANA plan): all civil aviation was told to land immediately, and by midday the American sky was clear. Around 240 international flights bound for the United States were diverted to Canada — Operation Yellow Ribbon, with more than 30,000 passengers. Airspace reopened gradually from 13 September, by then under new security measures. Source: the FAA (United States).

What happened
The COVID-19 pandemic brought much of world aviation to a halt in 2020: as demand collapsed, thousands of aircraft sat parked for weeks or months. The extent and the dates varied a great deal from country to country and from airline to airline. This record is based on evidence FOR THIS AIRCRAFT (documented parking and gaps in its flight logbook). Source: BTS (United States Department of Transportation).

Accident at Lake Butler, Florida
On February 9, 2023, the Boeing 757 aircraft (registration N13138), operated by United Airlines, was involved in an accident at Lake Butler, Florida (United States), leaving 1 injured. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
United Airlines flight 600, a scheduled service from Newark (EWR), New Jersey, to Tampa (TPA), Florida, met turbulence in cruise that left one passenger seriously injured. ADS-B data showed that, shortly after starting the descent from its cruising level of FL380, the aircraft lost speed abruptly: ground speed fell from 454 to 438 knots in 11 seconds and the vertical rate went from about -2,600 to -900 feet per minute. The sharp fluctuations lasted close to 90 seconds while it descended from FL350 to FL310. The event occurred just south of the jet stream, in an area of isolated embedded convection, with extreme-intensity returns, cloud tops up to FL370 and hail some 72 km to the west. An AIRMET for moderate turbulence between FL240 and FL420 was in force, and a high-resolution model found a temperature inversion at FL350 associated with the tropopause. Accident at San Francisco, California
On February 25, 2024, the Boeing 757-224 aircraft (registration N13138), operated by United Airlines, was involved in an accident at San Francisco, California (United States). Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
United Airlines flight 3872, a local maintenance test flight to verify a repair for unusual cabin noises, suffered a tail strike on take-off from runway 28R at San Francisco (SFO), California. With no passengers and no cargo, the aircraft weighed far less than usual: it accelerated faster than normal and tended to lift off before the rotation speed of 127 knots. The captain pulled back on the column normally, but the nose rose faster than expected and, just after the «positive rate» call, the crew heard and felt a «bump». With the controls responding well, they climbed to FL190 (19,000 feet) to run the tail strike checklist and returned to SFO, landing with flaps 30 without incident. Tail contact occurred at around 12.2° and pitch reached 15.3°. The impact damaged the APU firewall frame (spar, web and stiffeners), damage considered structurally substantial.
