Boeing 717-200 (717-2BD) in Long Beach. Operates for Delta Air Lines. Previously flew for airTran and airTran Airways.

Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Inverness, Florida
On August 27, 2009, the Boeing 717-200 aircraft (registration N994AT), operated by airTran, was involved in an accident at Inverness, Florida (United States), leaving 1 injured. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 27 August 2009, a scheduled passenger flight was climbing through 25,000 feet, in daylight and instrument conditions, when it penetrated a solid line of thunderstorms and met convective turbulence that neither the pilots nor the cabin crew expected. A flight attendant working the aft cabin fractured her leg and ankle when her service cart flew up and struck her. The National Weather Service had issued several successive advisories (SIGMETs) for thunderstorms and turbulence on the route, but the company's dispatch gave the crew one that had already expired and, contrary to the rules, did not provide the two new, current ones; the crew did not consult them either and no controller passed the hazardous information on. With those advisories and the strong returns the radar was detecting beneath the aircraft, the turbulence could have been anticipated. Source: the NTSB (United States).

What happened
The COVID-19 pandemic brought much of world aviation to a halt in 2020: as demand collapsed, thousands of aircraft sat parked for weeks or months. The extent and the dates varied a great deal from country to country and from airline to airline. This record is based on evidence FOR THIS AIRCRAFT (documented parking and gaps in its flight logbook). Source: Delta Air Lines.
