Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Incident at San Francisco, California
On December 14, 2016, the Bombardier Inc Cl 600 2B19 aircraft (registration N986SW), operated by Delta Connection, was involved in an incident at San Francisco, California (United States). Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 14 December 2016, at San Francisco airport, a CRJ turned by mistake onto a rapid exit taxiway and entered a runway for which a Boeing 737 had just been cleared for take-off. The ground controller had instructed the CRJ to taxi to runway 28L — crossing runways 1L and 1R — and then turn gently right onto another taxiway; instead, the captain turned left onto a rapid exit from 28L and began to cross the holding line. He sensed that «something did not fit» and stopped the aircraft just as the controller was telling him to hold. The 737 passed in front of the CRJ with barely 188 feet (some 57 metres) of lateral separation and its pilots never saw it. The intersection, marked as a hot spot, offered five turn options against the three that design guidance recommends; after the incident, San Francisco closed it. Source: the NTSB (United States).
