Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Salt Lake City, Utah
On November 23, 2010, the Bombardier Inc Cl-600-2C10 aircraft (registration N614SK), operated by SkyWest Airlines, was involved in an accident at Salt Lake City, Utah (United States) due to a problem during towing or pushback. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
The aircraft was two hours late and had been dispatched with the auxiliary power unit (APU) inoperative, permitted under the minimum equipment list. The apron was covered in snow and ice and it was snowing during loading and pushback. Without the APU, the captain started both engines at the gate with an external air cart, fearing a loss of control taxiing on one engine over the slippery pavement. During the pushback, the first tug could not get traction and was replaced by a larger one; shortly afterwards, the thrust of the engines at idle exceeded the tug's traction. The captain noticed abnormal movement; although the driver said he had control, the aircraft moved forward and the tug swung right, striking the fuselage. The rules said to delay the engine start until the pushback was finished if traction was lacking, but the inoperative APU forced an earlier start, and there was no guidance for pushback with poor traction and an inoperative APU.
