Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 15 June 2019, at about 12:55, United Airlines flight 627, a Boeing 757-224 (registration N26123) arriving from Denver (DEN), suffered a hard landing at Newark airport (EWR), New Jersey. None of the 172 occupants was hurt, but the aircraft suffered substantial damage. The first officer was flying, on an initial operating experience flight, with the automatic speedbrake system deferred under the MEL. With gusty wind (220° at 14 knots, gusting 22), the approach to runway 22L was stable and the initial touchdown smooth. But when the captain deployed the speedbrakes the nose pitched up; to avoid a tail strike, he blocked the control column and told the first officer to push, and the aircraft bounced against the runway. The subsequent inspection found significant structural damage in the forward fuselage area (stations 41/43). Source: the NTSB (United States).
