Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Incident at Chicago, Illinois
On April 26, 2011, the Boeing 737-7Q8 aircraft (registration N799SW), operated by Southwest Airlines, was involved in an incident at Chicago, Illinois (United States) due to a weather diversion. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
Flight 1919 was uneventful until the vicinity of Chicago, where delays from traffic, weather and conflicting approaches into O'Hare put it into a hold. ATC offered RNP approaches to runway 13C at Midway (MDW), but the crew loaded and briefed a different procedure by mistake (RNAV/GPS). In the hold they correctly calculated the landing distance, which showed sufficient runway. On leaving they spotted the error, found the correct chart and reprogrammed the flight management system, which raised their workload. A Southwest 737 ahead of them reported «fair» braking on 13C; although the controller did not pass it on, the crew heard it and redid the calculation, again sufficient. Amid distractions — a brief flap overspeed, a rain shower and wrongly set altitude reminders — the speedbrakes were not armed, and the aircraft touched down less than 500 feet from the threshold.
