Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Fort Lauderdale, Florida
On February 8, 2021, the Airbus A320 aircraft (registration N918NK), operated by Spirit Airlines, was involved in an accident at Fort Lauderdale, Florida (United States), leaving 1 injured. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 8 February 2021, the aircraft suffered an abrupt manoeuvre at the start of the descent and a flight attendant fractured an ankle. Shortly before top of descent, the captain had asked for the cabin to be prepared early because of bad weather near the arrival airport. The first officer, who was flying, began the descent and, having been cleared to a lower level and asked to expedite, increased the rate of descent, but at some point activated «open descent» mode. On seeing the speed approaching the red line, he pulled back on the sidestick and the autopilot disconnected; the captain took control with the disconnect/priority switch and applied back pressure to recover a normal descent attitude and avoid the overspeed. The air was calm; two flight attendants in the aft galley were thrown into the air and onto the floor, and one was left with a fractured ankle. Source: the NTSB (United States).
