Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 11 September 2001, after the attacks with hijacked aircraft on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon, the FAA ordered — for the first time in history — the complete closure of United States airspace (the SCATANA plan): all civil aviation was told to land immediately, and by midday the American sky was clear. Around 240 international flights bound for the United States were diverted to Canada — Operation Yellow Ribbon, with more than 30,000 passengers. Airspace reopened gradually from 13 September, by then under new security measures. Source: the FAA (United States).

Accident at Phoenix, Arizona
On October 20, 2008, the Airbus 320 aircraft (registration N448UA), operated by Ted, was involved in an accident at Phoenix, Arizona (United States). Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
United Airlines flight 1449, an Airbus A320, struck its tail on the runway during landing and suffered significant damage to the belly and the aft bulkhead area, with no injuries among passengers or crew. According to the pilots, the approach was stabilised, on speed and on glidepath until descending below 100 feet above the ground; then the speed fell below the reference 141 knots and the nose rose. At about 100 feet, the first officer brought the thrust levers to idle and the speed dropped a further 10 knots or so. He described a «sensation of rushing towards the ground» during the flare at about 70 feet and pulled back on the sidestick to check the sink. The aircraft touched down at 12.3 degrees nose-up with the main gear compressed, exceeding the 11.9-degree limit beyond which the tail strikes. Source: the NTSB (United States).

Parked due to COVID-19
In March 2020, the A320-232 aircraft (registration N448UA), operated by United Airlines, was parked. Source: BTS.
What happened
The COVID-19 pandemic brought much of world aviation to a halt in 2020: as demand collapsed, thousands of aircraft sat parked for weeks or months. The extent and the dates varied a great deal from country to country and from airline to airline. This record is based on evidence FOR THIS AIRCRAFT (documented parking and gaps in its flight logbook). Source: BTS (United States Department of Transportation).
