Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 15 February 2020, a Spirit Airlines Airbus A319 suffered a simultaneous failure of both integrated drive generators (IDG) during the approach to Sacramento International Airport (SMF), California. Power was lost from both electrical networks (AC BUS 1 and 2) and several cockpit displays and systems went out of service. Faced with the double loss, the ram air turbine (RAT) deployed automatically and drove the emergency generator; the aircraft landed without incident and was towed to the gate. It had already suffered an identical episode the previous day approaching Atlanta and three more on the ground, during single-engine taxi, in January 2020. The analysis showed that the frequency of both IDGs went out of limits; on disassembling the left engine's, a cylinder block was found worn beyond its limit, with the gold bushings perforated and the base metal exposed.
