Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Chicago, Illinois
On May 30, 2012, the Boeing 747 aircraft (registration B16481), operated by American Airlines, was involved in an accident at Chicago, Illinois (United States) due to a ground collision with another aircraft while taxiing. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 30 May 2012, at about 13:00 Central time, American Eagle Airlines flight 4265 — an Embraer EMB-135, registration N834AE — was waiting on the apron at Chicago-O'Hare airport (ORD), with its tail protruding towards taxiway A while it waited for ground staff to marshal it to gate G20. There it was struck by EVA Air flight 661, a Boeing 747-400 (registration B16481) taxiing towards runway 32L. On passing the regional aircraft, the 747 captain anticipated a tight clearance and asked his two cockpit colleagues to watch the wingtip separation; both thought it sufficient, but the jumbo's leading edge slat struck the EMB-135's vertical stabiliser. The regional aircraft suffered considerable damage to the rudder and fin, and the 747 minor damage to the wingtip and slat. Nobody was hurt and visibility was good. Source: the NTSB (United States).
