Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Incident at Farmersville, Texas
On January 24, 2012, the Embraer Emb-145Lr aircraft (registration N639AE), operated by Envoy Air, was involved in an incident at Farmersville, Texas (United States) due to a lightning strike. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 24 January 2012, a regional jet took off from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on a scheduled flight to Madison, Wisconsin. About 15 minutes after take-off, the crew declared an emergency after being struck by lightning and diverted to Little Rock, Arkansas; the strike damaged the skin and rivets of the left wing and required the wingtip and aileron of that wing to be replaced. The aircraft was under Fort Worth Center control, with heavy convective activity on the route that had closed several arrival and departure gates for Dallas. The controllers did not specify the location of the thunderstorms until the crew asked, although they did warn of moderate to heavy precipitation ahead; wide deviations could not be approved because of surrounding traffic, and shortly afterwards the lightning struck. The case illustrated a recommendation to the FAA to improve the delivery of real-time lightning data to controllers and pilots. Source: the NTSB (United States).
