Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 17 February 2015, the crew of flight GJS3710 were heads-down while taxiing and went past the turn from taxiway F onto taxiway N; they did not see the flashing runway guard lights and entered runway 28R without clearance, coming close to striking flight ENY3084. The minimum distance between the two aircraft's centres was estimated at about 94 feet, barely 20 to 30 feet between the wingtips. The first officer was dealing with cockpit tasks; the captain, who was taxiing, had just given way to a 757 arriving on taxiway A. On looking down to confirm a frequency and then up again, he believed he was passing taxiway B when in fact he was passing N, and did not notice the guard lights at the intersection with 28R. The ASDE-X surface radar alarmed, but the tower supervisor did not have time to cancel ENY3084's take-off, which moved left of the centreline to avoid it and continued. Taxiway F between taxiways N and P was subsequently closed. Source: the NTSB (United States).
