Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Incident at Munich-Franz Josef Strauss (MUC) Airport
On August 15, 2026, the Boeing 787 aircraft (registration VN-A867), operated by Vietnam Airlines, was involved in an incident at Munich-Franz Josef Strauss (MUC) Airport (Germany) due to a late rotation on take-off that carried the aircraft past the end of the runway, with a tail strike and substantial damage to the rear fuselage; it returned to Munich and landed with several tyres shredded. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
Vietnam Airlines flight VN34, a Boeing 787-9 with 271 passengers and 16 crew bound for Hanoi, began its take-off roll on Munich’s 4,000-metre runway 26L on the afternoon of 15 August 2026 and did not rotate until the very end. According to the crew’s account, the speed stopped increasing for about two seconds halfway down the runway, built up again to V1 and then dropped once more. The aircraft ran past the end of the runway, damaging the lights, struck its tail on the ground in a cloud of dust and lifted off with barely a hundred metres to spare. Once airborne, at about 10,000 feet, the checks revealed a tyre-pressure problem; the crew dumped fuel, made two low passes over runway 26R and landed some 90 minutes later, shredding several tyres on the left main gear and coming to a stop on taxiway A6.

Photographs taken afterwards show extensive damage to the underside of the rear fuselage, with the tail-strike module punctured, and to the stabilisers. Nobody was hurt. Germany’s BFU is investigating the event as a serious incident; tyre marks beyond the end of 26L confirm that the aircraft rolled off the paved surface before lifting off.

Memories coming soon

The register of memories is not open on this aircraft yet. We are enabling it gradually, record by record, as we consolidate each aircraft's information.

Before opening it we check the aircraft identity — its registration, its serial number and its model — against the civil register of the authority that registered it, so that every memory belongs to the exact aircraft that lived it. When that work reaches this record, the register will open here.
