Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at San Francisco, California
On July 23, 2019, the Boeing 757 aircraft (registration N57852), operated by United Airlines, was involved in an accident at San Francisco, California (United States) due to a problem during towing or pushback. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 23 July 2019, at about 00:48 local time, United Airlines flight 1161 — a Boeing 757-324, registration N57852 — suffered significant damage during pushback at San Francisco International Airport, before departing for Chicago-O'Hare. There were no injuries among passengers or crew. The manoeuvre was being carried out with a tug and a wing walker at each wingtip when, behind them, another aircraft was being towed. The tug driver saw it and stopped, but lost sight of the wing walker; believing the other aircraft was now clear, he resumed the movement and the other aircraft's ground staff signalled him to stop because he had struck it. The subsequent examination revealed that the outer section of the right elevator had broken at the second attachment fitting, and that the right horizontal stabiliser had a puncture, damage to the tip fairing and to the lower skin along some 60 to 75 cm from the end. Parked due to COVID-19

What happened
The COVID-19 pandemic brought much of world aviation to a halt in 2020: as demand collapsed, thousands of aircraft sat parked for weeks or months. The extent and the dates varied a great deal from country to country and from airline to airline. This record is based on evidence FOR THIS AIRCRAFT (documented parking and gaps in its flight logbook). Source: BTS (United States Department of Transportation).
