Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 11 September 2001, after the attacks with hijacked aircraft on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon, the FAA ordered — for the first time in history — the complete closure of United States airspace (the SCATANA plan): all civil aviation was told to land immediately, and by midday the American sky was clear. Around 240 international flights bound for the United States were diverted to Canada — Operation Yellow Ribbon, with more than 30,000 passengers. Airspace reopened gradually from 13 September, by then under new security measures. Source: the FAA (United States).

Accident at San Jose, California
On October 11, 2018, the Boeing 737 aircraft (registration N734SA), operated by Southwest Airlines, was involved in an accident at San Jose, California (United States), leaving 1 injured. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 11 October 2018, at about 11:00, Southwest Airlines flight 2134 — a Boeing 737-700, registration N734SA — was on final approach to San Jose (KSJC), California, arriving from Santa Ana (KSNA), when a passenger fell while returning to her seat. Of the 122 people on board, she was the only one seriously injured. According to the flight attendants, while they were completing their last pass through the cabin, the passenger came out of the lavatory and tripped on her way back to her seat. The seatbelt sign was on and the aircraft was below 10,000 feet. The woman immediately complained of hip pain and a flight attendant stayed on the floor with her for the landing. Emergency medical staff met her at the gate and took her to hospital, where she was diagnosed with a fracture of the left hip. Source: the NTSB (United States).
