Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 11 September 2001, after the attacks with hijacked aircraft on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon, the FAA ordered — for the first time in history — the complete closure of United States airspace (the SCATANA plan): all civil aviation was told to land immediately, and by midday the American sky was clear. Around 240 international flights bound for the United States were diverted to Canada — Operation Yellow Ribbon, with more than 30,000 passengers. Airspace reopened gradually from 13 September, by then under new security measures. Source: the FAA (United States).

Accident at São Paulo-Congonhas
On July 17, 2007, the Airbus A320-233 aircraft (registration PR-MBK), operated by TAM Linhas Aéreas, was involved in a fatal accident at São Paulo-Congonhas (Brazil), leaving 187 dead on board and 12 on the ground. Source: TAM Linhas Aéreas.
What happened
On 17 July 2007, the Airbus A320 registered PR-MBK was operating TAM flight 3054 between Porto Alegre and São Paulo. Landing at night in rain on the short, slippery runway 35L at Congonhas airport, the aircraft could not stop, ran off the end, crossed an avenue and crashed into a TAM cargo building and a service station, catching fire. All 187 people on board and 12 on the ground died, 199 in all: it is the worst air accident in Brazil's history. The official investigation noted that one thrust reverser was deactivated and that the handling of the thrust levers prevented braking. Source: TAM Linhas Aéreas.
