Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 11 September 2001, after the attacks with hijacked aircraft on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon, the FAA ordered — for the first time in history — the complete closure of United States airspace (the SCATANA plan): all civil aviation was told to land immediately, and by midday the American sky was clear. Around 240 international flights bound for the United States were diverted to Canada — Operation Yellow Ribbon, with more than 30,000 passengers. Airspace reopened gradually from 13 September, by then under new security measures. Source: the FAA (United States).

Accident at Houston, Texas
On December 23, 2020, the Airbus A320-232 aircraft (registration N463UA), operated by United Airlines, was involved in an accident at Houston, Texas (United States), leaving 1 injured. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 23 December 2020, at about 12:30, United Airlines flight 1481 — an Airbus A320-232, registration N463UA, arriving from John Wayne (KSNA) and on approach to George Bush airport, Houston (KIAH) — met turbulence with 140 people on board. Showers and thunderstorms near Houston had already been flagged in the flight preparation. During the descent, between 12,000 and 10,000 feet with abundant cumulus, the captain rang the double chime and announced over the public address system that the cabin crew should take their jumpseats. Shortly afterwards the aircraft entered a well-developed cumulus. The lead flight attendant was already secured, but the other two had just reached the aft galley and were not yet seated; one was thrown to the floor with severe pain and numbness in both legs, and was diagnosed with a fractured pelvis. The subsequent analysis attributed it to convective turbulence from developing thunderstorms, downwind of the flight path. Source: the NTSB (United States).
