Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 11 September 2001, after the attacks with hijacked aircraft on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon, the FAA ordered — for the first time in history — the complete closure of United States airspace (the SCATANA plan): all civil aviation was told to land immediately, and by midday the American sky was clear. Around 240 international flights bound for the United States were diverted to Canada — Operation Yellow Ribbon, with more than 30,000 passengers. Airspace reopened gradually from 13 September, by then under new security measures. Source: the FAA (United States).

Incident at Anchorage, Alaska
On May 21, 2010, the Airbus A319-132 aircraft (registration N810AW), operated by US Airways, was involved in an incident at Anchorage, Alaska (United States) due to a loss of separation with another aircraft (airprox). Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 21 May 2010, at an airport operating two intersecting runways, 14 and 25R, an Airbus A319 cleared for a visual approach to runway 14 had to go around. During the manoeuvre and the subsequent ATC instructions, its path converged with that of a Boeing 747 departing from runway 25R. The A319 crew received a TCAS resolution advisory and, according to radar, the two aircraft came within barely 100 feet vertically and some 530 metres horizontally. The investigation determined that the approach controller did not hand the A319's communications to the tower in time and did not take account of its above-average speed when instructing it to turn north, so the aircraft overflew runway 25R instead of turning earlier. In addition, the 747 switched to the departure frequency before the tower told it to and did not receive critical traffic information. Source: the NTSB (United States).
