Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Incident at Chicago, Illinois
On June 3, 2011, the Embraer Emb-145 aircraft (registration N607AE), operated by American Airlines, was involved in an incident at Chicago, Illinois (United States) due to damage during maintenance work. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 3 June 2011, during the landing roll, the pilots noticed one of the brake pedals go completely slack and then bite again. From the tower a puff of smoke was seen and they asked whether a tyre had burst. Taxiing to a holding area, the emergency brake would not hold the aircraft still; there were brake caution messages and hydraulic fluid was seen on the tyres and the ground. The examination revealed the brake pressure plate and rotor broken, with detached pieces found on the runway. Inspection of that brake and four others showed varying degrees of oxidation. The manufacturer had provided a procedure for checking it with a fingernail or a specific plastic tool and the operator had given training, but the maintenance staff did not know about the inspection and did not have that tool; training was subsequently reinforced and the tool provided.
