Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

On February 15, 2017, the Embraer S A Erj 170-200 Lr aircraft (registration N214NN), operated by Compass Airlines USA, was involved in an incident at San Francisco, California (United States). Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 15 February 2017, a coordination failure between controllers came close to causing a conflict at San Francisco (SFO). The Boulder sector controller assigned flight CPZ6081 runway 28L, but on seeing that it would arrive during noise abatement hours decided to move it to 28R: he changed the radar tag and handed the aircraft over without telling the pilot or warning his colleague of that omission. The crew had briefed the approach to 28L and continued with it despite reading back «runway 28R». Once with the tower, they announced a visual approach to 28L and were cleared to land on it. When the local controller told flight VRD920 to line up and wait on that same runway, she saw the «28R» tag for CPZ6081 on the radar and assumed it would land on the other, giving traffic information to neither. The surface surveillance system generated the alert with CPZ6081 some 1.6 km (0.85 nm) on final for 28L. Source: the NTSB (United States).
