Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
The DC-10's rear cargo door opened in flight at 11,500 feet, the cabin floor collapsed and severed the controls. The aircraft fell into a forest north of Paris with 346 people. The same failure had happened two years earlier without loss of life, and the manufacturer had addressed it with a recommendation rather than an order. Cargo doors have been designed so they cannot be improperly latched ever since.
