Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Incident at Detroit, Michigan
On January 27, 2016, the Bombardier Inc Cl600 2D24 aircraft (registration N316PQ), operated by Delta Air Lines, was involved in an incident at Detroit, Michigan (United States) due to a runway incursion. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
The local north-west controller (LNW) cleared operations vehicle Ops 373 onto runway 22L for a routine inspection. About 90 seconds before the incident, with the vehicle still on the runway, the LNW and north-east (LNE) positions were combined and the LNE controller took both. They carried out the required handover, but not at the position being relieved as procedures demand. The LNW told him Ops 373 was on 22L and, almost simultaneously, Endeavor Air (FLG3860), a CRJ900, reported ready for departure from 22L. Barely four seconds after the handover, the LNE cleared it to line up and wait and, a minute later, for take-off. Some 20 seconds after that, the ASDE-X system warned that the runway was occupied by both. The LNE told FLG3860 to reject the take-off and the vehicle to clear the runway; both complied. The closest proximity was about 211 feet. The controller being relieved did not carry out the required two-minute overlap to review the position. Source: the NTSB (United States).
