Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
KLM flight KL735, a Boeing 777-300ER with 322 passengers that left Amsterdam for Curaçao on the afternoon of 17 September 2026, was about two and a half hours out over the Atlantic when a business-class passenger’s power bank went into thermal runaway and caught fire. The cabin crew contained the fire following the procedure; the passenger suffered minor burns and the seat, a window shade and several panels were scorched and melted. With the fire out, the captain elected to turn back: the aircraft was some 1,170 km west of A Coruña when it reversed course, and it landed back at Schiphol about five hours and twenty minutes after departure.

KLM confirmed the event, opened an investigation and rebooked the passengers on later flights. The airline bans charging power banks on board and limits them to two per passenger, of up to 100 Wh, always in the cabin and never in the overhead bins.
