Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Incident 80 SE of JFK (el océano Atlántico), New York
On January 20, 2011, the Boeing 777 aircraft (registration N766AN), operated by American Airlines, was involved in an incident at 80 SE of JFK (el océano Atlántico), New York (United States) due to a loss of separation with another aircraft (airprox). Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 20 January 2011, a near mid-air collision occurred between a Boeing 777-200 and a formation of two United States Air Force C-17s, through an operational error by controllers at the New York Center (ZNY). Both aircraft responded to collision avoidance system (TCAS) advisories and the controllers turned each aircraft to resolve the conflict. According to radar, the three aircraft came to cross with barely 0 feet of vertical separation and 0.38 miles (about 0.6 km) horizontally. The data controller, coordinating between two radar controllers, told the one working the 777 to stop it at flight level 210; immediately afterwards, without hanging up the line, he leaned over to the one working the C-17s and told him to stop his formation at level 220. The 777's controller heard that «stop at 220» and thought it was for him, so he climbed the 777 to level 220 just as the C-17s were descending to the same level. In addition, the radar data blocks were showing incorrect assigned altitudes. Source: the NTSB (United States).

Accident at el océano Pacífico
On April 11, 2011, the Boeing 777-223 aircraft (registration N766AN), operated by American Airlines, was involved in an accident at el océano Pacífico (United States), leaving 4 injured. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 11 April 2011, during the climb, the crew saw a small weather formation ahead and asked to deviate, but air traffic control asked them to wait. Having already entered the weather, they received clearance to turn; even so, at around 24,000 feet the aircraft met some 11 seconds of moderate and then severe turbulence. During the episode, two flight attendants working at the rear fractured their ankles. The data recorder showed vertical acceleration going from 2.2 g to 0.69 g in 1 second, with a minimum of 0.50 g about 5 seconds after the peak. An NTSB meteorological study revealed a frontal wave over the coast of Japan, with a warm front to the east near the occurrence and gale-force winds forecast; there was low and medium cloud with tops around 14,000 feet and cumulonimbus with tops to 26,000 feet somewhat ahead. The crew's weather package included no turbulence forecast and there were no SIGMETs in force; nor were there pilot reports or indications on the radar. Source: the NTSB (United States).

Parked due to COVID-19
In March 2020, the 777-223(ER) aircraft (registration N766AN), operated by American Airlines, was parked. Source: BTS.
What happened
The COVID-19 pandemic brought much of world aviation to a halt in 2020: as demand collapsed, thousands of aircraft sat parked for weeks or months. The extent and the dates varied a great deal from country to country and from airline to airline. This record is based on evidence FOR THIS AIRCRAFT (documented parking and gaps in its flight logbook). Source: BTS (United States Department of Transportation).
