Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Incident at Ciudad de Mexico

What happened
On 25 February 2008, at about 01:30 local time, an Aeromexico Boeing 777-200 (registration N774AM) was damaged while taxiing from the new Terminal 2 to runway 05R at Licenciado Benito Juárez International Airport, Mexico City. The aircraft was beginning a scheduled international passenger flight to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and none of its occupants was hurt; visual meteorological conditions prevailed. The crew had been cleared to taxi to 05R via taxiways B3 and A1, but the captain had doubts about whether there was enough clearance for the 777 on B3. Already lined up on that taxiway's centreline, he felt a heavy impact and stopped the aircraft: the left wing had struck a light pole. The investigation came under the jurisdiction of the Government of Mexico (DGAC). Source: the NTSB (United States).
