Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 11 September 2001, after the attacks with hijacked aircraft on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon, the FAA ordered — for the first time in history — the complete closure of United States airspace (the SCATANA plan): all civil aviation was told to land immediately, and by midday the American sky was clear. Around 240 international flights bound for the United States were diverted to Canada — Operation Yellow Ribbon, with more than 30,000 passengers. Airspace reopened gradually from 13 September, by then under new security measures. Source: the FAA (United States).

What happened
United Airlines flight 328, a Boeing 777 with Pratt & Whitney PW4077 engines, was climbing through about 12,500 feet some five minutes after taking off from Denver (DEN) when the right engine suffered a complete fan blade failure (a «fan blade out» event). The impact tore away the inlet lip, the cowl support beam and parts of the inlet, the fan cowls and the thrust reversers, and caused an engine fire. The crew declared an emergency and landed without incident at Denver about 24 minutes after take-off. There were no injuries on board or on the ground, although the debris damaged a vehicle and a house. It was the fourth such fatigue event on 777s with PW4000 engines, and the one with the greatest damage; it led to Boeing modifications and to FAA airworthiness directives. Airworthiness directive
On February 23, 2021, the Boeing 777 aircraft (registration N772UA), was subject to an airworthiness directive due to a fatigue failure of a fan blade on the Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engine, prompting repetitive inspections and structural reinforcement of the inlet. Source: la FAA.
