Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 11 September 2001, after the attacks with hijacked aircraft on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon, the FAA ordered — for the first time in history — the complete closure of United States airspace (the SCATANA plan): all civil aviation was told to land immediately, and by midday the American sky was clear. Around 240 international flights bound for the United States were diverted to Canada — Operation Yellow Ribbon, with more than 30,000 passengers. Airspace reopened gradually from 13 September, by then under new security measures. Source: the FAA (United States).

Accident at Atlanta, Georgia

What happened
The passenger flight was descending towards the airport terminal area from 34,000 feet, with the seatbelt sign on. While the flight attendants were securing the galley, the aircraft met turbulence somewhere between 10,000 and 18,000 feet. One of the flight attendants fell onto another, who struck her head and fractured a rib. The flight landed without further difficulty and the medical services were waiting at the gate, where they treated the injured flight attendant and took her off the aircraft. No significant meteorological advisory (SIGMET) had been issued before the occurrence and the aircraft was undamaged. Source: the NTSB (United States).

What happened
On 29 June 2015, at about 02:30, a flight attendant suffered a serious injury on board Delta Air Lines flight 74 — a Boeing 767, registration N825MH — flying from Atlanta, Georgia, to Amsterdam, Netherlands. In cruise and with no turbulence, the flight attendant was going down the stairs to the crew rest area when her foot slipped off a step and she twisted her right ankle. She continued her duties despite the pain and swelling, and after landing was diagnosed with a fracture of that ankle. The flight attendant stated that the non-slip surface of the step was worn.
