Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 7 June 2012, at about 16:00 UTC, US Airways flight 1078 — a Boeing 757-200, registration N936UW, arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, with 178 passengers — met turbulence during the descent into Philadelphia (KPHL), even though the forecast had not predicted it. Some 80 km out, the crew identified a band of cumulus between 13,000 and 9,000 feet, and the captain reminded passengers over the public address system to fasten their seatbelts in case of light bumps. Shortly before crossing 10,000 feet, the aircraft passed through moderate turbulence for three to five seconds, with no prior warnings from other pilots or from ATC. A flight attendant finishing off the aft galley was thrown upwards and fell to the floor next to the last row. Two other crew members suffered minor injuries. On the ground she was taken to hospital, where she was diagnosed with fractures of the tibia and fibula. Source: the NTSB (United States).
