Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Sydney-Kingsford Smith (SYD) Airport
On August 9, 2026, the Airbus A321 aircraft (registration VH-VQJ), operated by Jetstar Airways, was involved in an accident at Sydney-Kingsford Smith (SYD) Airport (Australia) due to hard braking while taxiing on meeting a Qatar Airways Boeing 777 under tow on a crossing taxiway; a cabin crew member was injured, leaving 1 injured. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
At about seven in the morning on 9 August 2026 the Airbus A320 operating Jetstar flight JQ402 to the Gold Coast was taxiing under its own power towards the runway at Sydney when its crew saw, very close on a crossing taxiway, a Qatar Airways Boeing 777-300ER that a tug was towing from a gate to a remote stand after its arrival from Doha. Both aircraft stopped dead. Nobody aboard the 777 was hurt, but the hard braking injured a cabin crew member on the A320, and the connection between the 777’s nose gear and the tug was damaged.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau opened investigation AO-2026-087 as a "taxiing proximity event" and is analysing the initial evidence; the US NTSB records it as an accident because of the crew member’s serious injury.
