Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 11 August 2016, in cruise at FL320, a scheduled flight with 2 pilots, 3 flight attendants and 146 passengers met severe turbulence; all three flight attendants and 28 passengers suffered minor injuries and the aircraft diverted to a nearby airport. The radar showed some precipitation en route; the captain told the cabin crew to sit down and switched on the seatbelt sign. Coming out of light rain, the crew saw cumulonimbus ahead and obtained clearance to go round them, but the aircraft hit turbulence while crossing the edge of the cloud: the captain described it as «very violent and very fast». He warned it would last 30 to 45 minutes and the three flight attendants waited seated for about 10 minutes until it eased; on getting up to attend the cabin, «extreme» turbulence injured all three. There were convective SIGMETs and thunderstorms forecast, but the radar showed only green returns and there had been no prior reports and no ATC advisories. Source: the NTSB (United States).
