Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 11 September 2001, after the attacks with hijacked aircraft on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon, the FAA ordered — for the first time in history — the complete closure of United States airspace (the SCATANA plan): all civil aviation was told to land immediately, and by midday the American sky was clear. Around 240 international flights bound for the United States were diverted to Canada — Operation Yellow Ribbon, with more than 30,000 passengers. Airspace reopened gradually from 13 September, by then under new security measures. Source: the FAA (United States).

Incident at Newark, New Jersey
On January 25, 2008, the Airbus A320 aircraft (registration N462UA), operated by Ted, was involved in an incident at Newark, New Jersey (United States) due to an electrical failure. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
United Airlines flight 731 suffered a failure of the AC 1 electrical bus, one of the aircraft's two main electrical distribution systems, which in turn left other buses unpowered and caused the loss of several displays and on-board systems. During the return to the airport, the electronic centralised aircraft monitor (ECAM) repeatedly displayed and cleared multiple failure messages with their recommended corrective actions, which made it hard for the crew to interpret and deal with them. No defects were found in the aircraft wiring, and disassembly and testing of the No. 1 integrated drive generator (IDG), the bus tie contactor (BTC) and the generator control unit (GCU) revealed no fault either.
