Twenty aircraft take off from Mildenhall in the MacRobertson Air Race, 18,000 kilometres to Melbourne. The DH.88 Comet “Grosvenor House” won in under three days, but the surprise was KLM’s DC-2, an airliner carrying passengers that finished second: the future belonged to commercial aircraft.
