Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Staines, by Heathrow
On June 18, 1972, the Hawker Siddeley HS121 Trident 1C aircraft (registration G-ARPI), operated by BEA - British European Airways, was involved in a fatal accident at Staines, by Heathrow (United Kingdom), leaving 118 dead. Source: the BEA (France).
What happened
Two minutes after taking off for Brussels, the Trident entered a deep stall and fell into a field at Staines. The leading-edge droops had been retracted far too early, at a speed the aircraft could not sustain. The captain had serious heart disease and there was tension in the cockpit over a strike. There was no cockpit voice recorder: the United Kingdom made it compulsory because of this crash.
