Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Incident at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
On November 16, 2008, the Dehavilland Dhc-8-311 aircraft (registration N326EN), was involved in an incident at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (United States). Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
The aircraft was on approach to land. On selecting gear down, the main gear extended correctly, but the nose gear did not. The crew flew a go-around and, clear of the airport airspace, tried without success to extend the nose gear with several checklists and in consultation with maintenance on the ground. A pass in front of the tower confirmed that the nose gear doors were open, but the gear was not coming down. The captain landed with the nose gear retracted and delayed lowering the nose to the lowest possible speed; it contacted the runway and the aircraft slid some 160 metres before stopping. There was no fire and the passengers disembarked normally. On-site and laboratory examination revealed that the steering links had been loaded in tension beyond their capacity; their failure allowed the nose wheels to rotate in the bay and become jammed in the structure. Hardness tests met the manufacturer's minimums and it could not be determined when the overload occurred. Source: the NTSB (United States).
