Accident at Nairobi-Wilson Airport

On March 20, 2026, the DHC-8 102A aircraft (registration 5Y-BXI), operated by ALS, was involved in an accident at Nairobi-Wilson Airport (Kenya) due to a landing gear collapse on landing. Source: ALS.

What happened

The landing gear of this de Havilland Canada Dash 8 collapsed on landing at Wilson airport, Nairobi, the city's second airport and the base of regional and cargo aviation in Kenya. Nobody was hurt, but the aircraft was damaged beyond repair: it was permanently withdrawn from service. This is the end of this airframe's career. A gear collapse rarely injures anyone — the aircraft stops on its belly on the runway — but the structural damage it causes usually exceeds the residual value of an aircraft of this age, and repair stops making economic sense.
