Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
A DC-8 that had overshot its holding point, with one of its navigation receivers out, collided in fog with a Constellation descending towards LaGuardia. The jet fell on a Brooklyn neighbourhood and killed six people in the street. An eleven-year-old boy survived for a day. The 250-knot limit below 10,000 feet and the transponder reporting of position were brought in because of it.
