Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
This Kalitta Air Boeing 777-300ER struck its tail on the runway at Cincinnati while flying a go-around. The event was logged by the FAA. A tail strike during a go-around is a characteristic risk of very long-fuselage aircraft. The 777-300ER is almost 74 metres long and is the longest variant of the family; that is why it carries a tail skid. On abandoning a landing the pilot applies power and raises the nose, and if he rotates too far, the tail reaches the ground before the aircraft lifts off. Our records have tracked this airframe from the start, and its story is one of a second life. It flew twenty years for Emirates as A6-EBB, from March 2005, with two periods of storage along the way — March 2018 and February 2020. In September 2025 it changed flag and trade: it became N778CK of Kalitta Air, an American freight operator based at Willow Run airport, Ypsilanti, Michigan. From carrying Emirates passengers to carrying cargo across the United States.
