Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 11 September 2001, after the attacks with hijacked aircraft on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon, the FAA ordered — for the first time in history — the complete closure of United States airspace (the SCATANA plan): all civil aviation was told to land immediately, and by midday the American sky was clear. Around 240 international flights bound for the United States were diverted to Canada — Operation Yellow Ribbon, with more than 30,000 passengers. Airspace reopened gradually from 13 September, by then under new security measures. Source: the FAA (United States).

Incident at Shemya, Alaska
On August 15, 2014, the Boeing 777 - 236 aircraft (registration N773AN), operated by American Airlines, was involved in an incident at Shemya, Alaska (United States). Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 15 August 2014, near Shemya, Alaska, there was a loss of required separation between a Boeing 777-200 en route to Shanghai-Pudong, China, and a Boeing 747-400 bound for Anchorage, Alaska. There was no damage and no injuries. The 777 crew asked to climb from flight level 360 to 370; the controller saw the conflict with a first opposite-direction aircraft, but not the one with the 747, also at FL370. He told them to maintain FL360 until past the first traffic and then climb, which caused the loss of separation with the 747. Both crews received and followed TCAS advisories. Minimum separation was 1.04 miles (about 1.7 km) horizontally and 900 feet vertically. The FAA had disabled the long-range conflict probe in the area, leaving the controller without that backup.
