Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
During the night descent into Cali the crew typed the letter 'R' into the flight computer to head for the Rozo beacon, but the system picked Romeo, near Bogotá, and the 757 turned towards the mountains. The terrain warning came late and the speed brakes were still out. 159 of the 163 people on board died. It is the accident that put the navigation database at the centre of safety.
