Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Lanai, Hawaii
On October 16, 2014, the Boeing 737 330 aircraft (registration N301KH), operated by Aloha Air Cargo, was involved in an accident at Lanai, Hawaii (United States). Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 16 October 2014, Aloha Air Cargo flew to an outstation where it had no staff of its own. For weight and balance on the return flight, it decided to limit the extra crew and take the mechanic instead of the load planner, contrary to its procedures: the mechanic was not trained in cargo restraint and there was no approved staff at the destination to stow the empty pallets. The planner explained how to load them — each pallet locked in its original position — but at LNY (Lanai) dispatch recommended grouping them all at position 9 for weight and balance. The floor locks only hold the bottom pallet, not those stacked above; these were secured with a strap, insufficient to prevent them shifting. Although it was stated that the locks were «up» and engaged, the marshaller found those between stations 8 and 9 disengaged, with the right front and rear mechanisms damaged, a sign that they had been used but failed under overload.
