Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
The 727 arriving from New Orleans flew into a thunderstorm on final approach to JFK, lost lift in a downdraught and struck the approach lights. Of the 124 people on board, 113 died. The meteorologist Ted Fujita studied this crash and described the microburst, a wind nobody had named and which would bring down several more aircraft before radars were installed to see it.
