Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Kenner, Louisiana
On July 9, 1982, the Boeing 727-235 aircraft (registration N4737), operated by Pan American World Airways, was involved in a fatal accident at Kenner, Louisiana (United States), leaving 145 dead on board and 8 on the ground. Source: Pan American World Airways.
What happened
The 727 took off from New Orleans under a thunderstorm and within seconds flew into a microburst: the headwind turned into a tailwind and the aircraft, unable to climb any longer, fell onto a residential neighbourhood. All 145 people on board died, and eight on the ground. Together with Delta Flight 191 three years later, it was the accident that led to wind-shear radars at airports across the United States.
