Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at New York, New York
On April 10, 2019, the Airbus A321 aircraft (registration N114NN), operated by American Airlines, was involved in an accident at New York, New York (United States) due to an engine failure. Source: the NTSB (United States).
What happened
On 10 April 2019, an American Airlines Airbus A321 rolled to the left during take-off from runway 31L at Kennedy airport (JFK), New York. There was a crosswind of 14 to 17 knots from the right, well below the company limit of 35 knots. The roll was normal until, at the rotation speed of 156 knots, the captain (pilot flying) applied full left rudder — from 8° to 25° in 1.5 seconds — and held it near maximum for 3 seconds. With the sidestick back and to the right to rotate, the aircraft yawed off heading and, as the gear left the ground, rolled left to 37° of left wing down. The captain took rudder and sidestick to the right stop and back and stopped the roll, but the left wingtip struck the ground and a runway distance marker, a fragment of which became embedded in it. Airbus simulations confirmed that the roll was the response to the captain's own rudder input. Source: the NTSB (United States).
