Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
American Airlines flight 2905 met turbulence at flight level 250 (25,000 feet) while flying from Tampa (TPA) to Charlotte (CLT). One flight attendant was seriously injured and three others suffered minor injuries. The crew had chosen that level because of a pilot report giving smooth air between FL250 and FL260. Near the top of descent, the pilots spent a few minutes «heads down» loading data and reviewing the arrival; on looking up, a rapidly developing cumulus was growing directly ahead, too close to avoid. The first officer switched on the seatbelt sign and the aircraft penetrated the top of the cloud, with load factors between 0.17 g and 2.75 g (extreme turbulence). The cabin crew were collecting rubbish after the drinks service when the cart came down on top of them; the most seriously hurt fractured both ankles. The crew declared an emergency and landed without incident at Charlotte. Source: the NTSB (United States).
