Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

Accident at Mont Sainte-Odile, Alsace
On January 20, 1992, the A320-111 aircraft (registration F-GGED), operated by Air Inter, was involved in a fatal accident at Mont Sainte-Odile, Alsace (France), leaving 87 dead. Source: Air Inter.
What happened
On approach to Strasbourg, the crew meant to set a 3.3-degree descent angle and unknowingly selected a rate of 3,300 feet per minute: the A320's panel showed both modes with almost identical figures. The aircraft struck the mountain in snow. 87 of the 96 people on board died. The panel was redesigned and France made the ground-proximity warning compulsory, which Air Inter had not fitted.
