Vuelopedia is a work in progress: it currently holds about 30% of the information we expect to have by the third quarter of 2027. Although we use only official, highly reliable sources, some aircraft data and history may still contain errors or inaccuracies. We work hard to clear every anomaly from the records using specialized verification tools.

What happened
On 29 October 2024, at about 11:55 local time, United Parcel Service (UPS) flight 2909 suffered a tail strike while landing at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF), Kentucky. The captain was flying and the first officer monitoring during the ILS approach to runway 17R, stabilised and in the landing configuration. At about 20 feet power was reduced and the flare begun; touchdown felt normal and the speedbrakes and reversers were deployed. The aircraft bounced, but with the reversers already deployed a go-around was not an option. According to the flight data recorder, the bounce was caused by excess energy: as the shock strut re-extended after the second touchdown the column was pulled back (nose up) and, with speedbrakes and reversers still deploying, pitch climbed to about 12 degrees. The strike caused abrasion to the lower aft fuselage and significant damage to the frames. Source: the NTSB (United States).
